Workshops for Consumer Influencers in improving consumer’s choice and preferences towards organically farmed produces

Madurai & Thanjavur

As a consumer rights organization, CREATE has been actively involved in raising awareness about SAFE and NUTRITIOUS food through various strategies and approaches. Previously, we conducted consumer education via Paddy Festivals, combining them with food festivals, exhibitions, and sometimes as standalone events like traditional food recipe competitions in schools and colleges.

In an effort to expand our consumer outreach and engage more consumers, CREATE organized two workshops exclusively for consumer influencers. Participants were carefully selected from sectors directly and indirectly connected with consumers. Approximately 100 participants were identified from categories such as Food Writers, Blog Writers, YouTubers, Mainstream Media, FM Stations, All India Radio, Professors and Students from the departments of Biotechnology, Food and Nutrition, Organic Consumers, Organic Farmers, Organic Outlet Owners, Doctors, and Women SHGs.

Consumer Influencers workshop organized in Madurai on 29th November 2023

Consumer Influencers workshop organized in Thanjavur on 12th December 2023

The first workshop took place in Madurai on 29th November 2023, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association. Similarly, the second workshop was organized in Thanjavur on 12th December 2023, in collaboration with SASTRA University.

The events were highly successful, marked by the enthusiastic acceptance of the idea by all the categorized “Consumer Influencers.” Their active participation during the workshop and the commitment of the speakers we invited for both workshops in Thanjavur and Madurai were noteworthy. We established valuable contacts and connections for follow-ups and future collaboration.

The sharing, presentations, and interactions during the workshops reaffirmed how humanity is trapped in a vicious cycle of human health and nutritional crises and a toxic environment. The events were highly successful, marked by the enthusiastic acceptance of the idea by all the categorized “Consumer Influencers.”

The sharing, presentations, and interactions during the workshops reaffirmed how humanity is trapped in a vicious cycle of human health and nutritional crises and a toxic environment. The alarming warnings from representatives of the medical fraternity highlighted the urgent need for a radical shift in how we produce our food, make choices, and interact with our natural resources. Unless there is a significant change, the crisis will become more complex and irreversible.

In a significant development, an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between CREATE and SASTRA for the first-ever Ethno-scientific approaches for evidence-based screening of heritage and indigenous paddy varieties of Tamil Nadu for health through Human Clinical Trials. Many other research and academic institutions have also expressed interest in joint collaborative research, engaging their students in problem-based research that benefits humanity and the environment. We plan to organize similar workshops in Coimbatore and Chennai in January 2024.
